Tell Me Your Personality, and I’ll Tell You Your Dream Career

Understanding the clues your personality reveals

Tell Me Your Personality, and I’ll Tell You Your Dream Career

Ever notice how some people just seem like they were made for their jobs, while others struggle to find their place?

You know - like your accountant friend who already has next year planned out, while you're still working on today. Or your cousin in sales, who connects effortlessly with everyone - and you wonder how he makes it look so easy.

What sets them apart? It's not just their skills, they've found what drives them from within. When we step back to see what comes naturally to us, our path becomes a bit clearer. And when that clarity hits, it becomes more of a calling than a job. Like it's something meant just for us.

And really, isn't that what we all want?

The Sweet Spot

When it comes to our careers, our skills and strengths definitely matter. But when they click what we actually love to do? That's when things really start to change. It stops feeling like just work and turns into something more - like purpose. That sweet spot - where your strengths and passions meet, changes everything.

"Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony." - Mahatma Gandhi

Our Past Roles Leave Clues

I've worn a lot of hats - hairstylist, restaurant owner, business developer, realtor, writer, health coach, and wellness/food blogger. It seems like a random mix, right? But if you look closer, there's a pattern.

Take when I did hair - doing the actual hair part was maybe 10% of it. The rest? 80% listening, offering guidance, and helping people see themselves differently - and 10% running the business.

Just like the accountant who likes organization or the cousin in sales who connects with people at the drop of a dime, the job title isn't so much what matters, it's how we show up in these roles. For me, it was about building, connecting, and guiding them toward something better - the bigger picture and the possibilities.

Our roles reveal something deeper about who we are, showing us our strengths and weaknesses, but perhaps more importantly, what drives our natural desire to keep growing.

Knowing what makes us tick - where time seems to disappear - that's the sweet spot I'm talking about. Our work is more than a job title. It should also be meaningful to us, and make us want to get out of bed in the morning (well, most days anyway).

When we pull from our experiences - our strengths and passions, we're setting ourselves up for success in a meaningful way.

Digging Deeper

So, how do we know where we really fit? Our personality gives us clues. Maybe you're the planner who loves organizing, or a creative always coming up with new ideas. Maybe your gift is in helping others or building connections.

Why This Fits: Leadership comes naturally, and these roles let you inspire and make key decisions.

Where Do You Fit?

This list is far from complete. Most of us don't fit neatly into a perfectly square box. You might see yourself in a few different types or you still might be just figuring it out. But the patterns are there, even if they're not always obvious right away.

These overlaps and rough edges are what make us unique.

When we blend our skills, passions, and quirks that may seem unrelated now, they're really just bigger pieces of the puzzle. They'll come together in a way that makes perfect sense.

As Steve Jobs so wisely said,

"You can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backward. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future."

When you find what's meant for you, work stops feeling like just a job - and starts feeling like a purpose.
