The Best Watermelon Juices for the Summer

Do you ever long for carefree summer days?

Moments filled with laughter, get-togethers, and lingering barbeques — where time seems to slow down, and simple pleasures take center stage?

Long talks over lemonade, slices of fresh watermelon, and the smell of charcoal heating up on the grill. Kids playing in the sprinklers, only stopping to eat in between. Summers are a much-needed slowdown in the busyness of our days.

Fresh watermelon goes hand-in-hand with almost everything good in summer. So, I thought I’d share the best watermelon juices for summer and some fun twists.

Family Fun

I’ve grown lots of watermelons in my gardens over the years. There’s something so gratifying about tending to them. In a world that’s filled with so much instant gratification, I wanted my kids to learn the art of planning, planting, and nurturing the seeds.

I can’t recommend it enough.

Whether in a garden or simply growing herbs on the windowsill, gardening with kids offers wonderful family connections. And such profound lessons about patience, growth, resilience, and enjoying the rewards of our effort.

Sweet Surrender

This summer, we’re mostly doing pot gardening on the deck. It has been an abnormally busy season, and there’s so much that can be grown in pots.

So this year, we’re getting our watermelons from the Farmer's Market. It’s actually one of my favorite places to spend time on a Sunday afternoon. I love the music, culture, local traditions, and all the unique offerings. There’s always something new to see, and it feels good to support local farmers.

Plus, everything is so incredibly fresh and mostly organic.

And, in July and August, when watermelon is at its peak here, there’s nothing more refreshing and sweet. It’s such a delicious way to stay hydrated.

Nourishing Reset

Some years back, after watching the documentary Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead by Joe Cross, I committed to a 15-day juice fast. He made quite a compelling case for juice cleanses.

  • Rich in vitamins and nutrients

  • The digestive system gets a rest

  • Weight loss

  • Improved skin texture and appearance

  • Alkalizing to our body

I didn’t want to stay on it long-term, but it was a great way to naturally cleanse and fast, along with it being a great reset and kickstart into healthier eating.

I juiced a bunch of greens, veggies, and fruits. I tried to mix it up. During those 15 days, I experienced an incredible transformation. Not only did I lose some extra pounds, but I also felt energy like never before.

The Best Watermelon Juices for the Summer

Watermelon juice quickly became my favorite. It was such a yummy treat that I looked forward to each day. And watermelon is bursting with good-for-you benefits.

Top Ten Benefits of Watermelon Juice

  2. Nutrient-rich: Packed with potassium, magnesium, and vitamins.

  3. Promotes eye health: With beta-carotene and lutein, watermelon helps protect eyes from UV rays and promotes healthy vision.

  4. Glowing skin and healthy hair: Antioxidants and vitamin C help fight free radicals, leaving skin radiant and hair healthy.

  5. Assists in weight management: Watermelon helps reduce your appetite.

  6. Soothes sore muscles: After a workout, watermelon helps soothe sore muscles and aids in recovery.

  7. Stress-Relief Elixir: Lycopene, vitamin C, potassium, magnesium, and vitamin B6, work together to reduce stress, regulate hormones, and promote relaxation.

  9. Heart-friendly: The potassium and magnesium in watermelon juice help maintain healthy blood pressure, benefiting heart health.

  10. Aids in digestion: Watermelon’s enzymes support healthy digestion.

It’s such an easy way to get more fruit into our diet. I like to get one watermelon for eating and one for juicing. From smoothies, salads, and sorbets, to salsa, it’s such a versatile fruit that can be enjoyed in so many ways.
