This easy, no-cook pizza sauce is our go-to for DIY pizza nights, last-minute dinners, and even a quick dipping sauce for breadsticks. Plus, it's ready in 5 minutes! Once you try it, store-bought sauce just won’t taste the same.

Planning a full pizza night? Don’t miss these vegan English muffin pizzas, vegan provolone cheese sauce, or vegan sausage crumbles.

Pizza Sauce

I’m a big believer in family-time rituals. They build strong bonds and connections with kids of all ages. So, depending on our schedules, Friday or Saturday is our pizza and movie night.

My kids pick out the movie, and we make homemade pizzas together.

We all get hands-on in the kitchen, dicing, slicing, and spreading out the toppings. There’s lots of flexibility and creativity when making pizza, from the crust to the toppings.

It’s a big, delicious mess — and with a large family, there are lots of cooks in the kitchen — but it’s something I wouldn’t trade for anything.

It’s become a treasured tradition we look forward to every week. It’s also amazing for team-building and connecting — a win-win. And there are even leftovers for breakfast or lunch the following day. Does it get any better than that?

Making ahead, storing, reheating, and freezing

  • Making ahead: Prepare the sauce and store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
  • Storing: Keep the sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
  • Reheating: Warm the sauce on the stovetop over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until heated through.
  • Freezing: Freeze the sauce in small portions using ice cube trays (quickly add a burst of flavor to dishes like pastas to soups) or freezer-safe containers or bags. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight before using.

Ingredients

  • (1) 15-ounce can tomato sauce
  • ¾ teaspoon maple syrup
  • ¾ teaspoon oregano
  • ¾ teaspoon basil
  • ¾ teaspoon onion powder
  • ¾ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¾ teaspoon nutritional yeast
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon fennel, optional
  • ½ teaspoon crushed red chili pepper, optional and adjust to taste
  • Drizzle of olive oil, optional, extra virgin

Instructions

  • In a medium-sized bowl, add all ingredients. Stir to combine. If desired, taste and adjust seasoning to your liking. Use immediately or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

Notes

  1. Optionally, let the sauce rest in the refrigerator for a few hours to help the flavors develop.
  2. A drizzle of extra virgin olive oil adds richness and helps carry the flavors of the herbs and spices throughout the sauce.
  3. For a more pronounced flavor, increase each seasoning by ¼ teaspoon.
