The Perfect Blueberry Oat Smoothie

A plant-based nutrient-packed smoothie perfect for mornings

The Perfect Blueberry Oat Smoothie

Want to sneak more nutrients into your mornings?

When my children were little, I always tried to create nutritious plant-based smoothie options they'd actually enjoy. It was a challenge — especially at first. But with time, they grew to love them.

Initially, I sweetened them up a little more so they'd like them. Little by little, their taste acclimated, and they became something they looked forward to for breakfast.

We'd mostly have green or fruit smoothies with other healthy ingredients, like flax, hemp, or chia seeds. This Blueberry Dreams Oat Smoothie is a tried and true favorite. It's my youngest daughter's absolute favorite, and she asks for it all the time.

It's delicious and healthy — and to this day, it's still a hit.

Does it get any better than that?

With the health benefits of blueberries and oats packed into each sip, it's a delicious indulgence we can feel good about.

FAQs

  • Can I use fresh blueberries?

Absolutely, though you may need to add a cup or two of ice to achieve the same creaminess.

  • What type of milk works best?

Almond milk gives this smoothie its subtle nutty undertone, but any plant-based milk will work.

  • What can I use instead of Medjool dates? Any date will work, or you can use a touch of maple syrup, honey, or agave nectar.

  • Why add flax, chia, or hemp seeds?

They're an excellent source of Omega-3 fatty acids that add a nutritious boost to your smoothie. However, the recipe will work well without them, too.

  • Can I make this smoothie in advance or store leftovers?

Absolutely, this smoothie keeps well in the fridge for two days. Just give it a good stir or a quick blend to refresh its creamy texture before enjoying. It’s a great option for busy mornings or meal-prepping for the family.

Pro Tips

  • Pre-Freeze Bananas: Having frozen bananas on hand will make your smoothies creamy every time.

  • Fresh fruit or bananas: Add a cup or two of ice if you’re using fresh blueberries or bananas.

  • Nut-Free Option: If you have a nut allergy, oat or soy milk are excellent substitutes.
