When my kids were little, I was always looking for ways to get more nutrients into their day, but it had to be something they’d actually enjoy.
At first, I made the smoothies a little sweeter so they’d be excited to drink them. Over time, their taste buds adjusted, and smoothies became a breakfast they looked forward to.
We rotated between simple green smoothies, fruit blends like this sweet strawberry smoothie recipe, or this acai smoothie recipe. This blueberry oat smoothie is still a tried and true favorite we come back to again and again.

Blueberry Banana Oatmeal Smoothie
Equipment
Ingredients
- 2 cups frozen blueberries
- 1-1/2 cups unsweetened plant-based milk
- 2 frozen bananas
- 1-2 Medjool dates, depending on sweetness preference
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- ¼ cup oats
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients in a high-speed blender
- Blend until smooth and creamy
- Enjoy!
Notes
- Frozen bananas add lots of creaminess to a smoothie, so I always have them on hand. If you’re using fresh blueberries or bananas, add a cup or two of ice.
- Sweetener swap: If you don’t have Medjool dates, you can use maple syrup, agave nectar, or your favorite sweetener. Adjust to taste depending on how sweet your fruit is.

I’ve made this smoothie for years, and it never gets old. The oats make it creamy and filling, and I love how quick it is for busy mornings. Sometimes I swap the dates for a drizzle of maple syrup — both work great!
