Do you ever find yourself daydreaming of carefree summer days? The kind filled with sunshine, backyard barbecues, and the irresistible sweetness of freshly cut watermelon? Summer truly is a time to slow down and enjoy life's simple pleasures. And what better way to celebrate the season than with the juicy goodness of fresh watermelon? These delicious and best watermelon juice recipes are perfect for family fun and carefree backyard moments.

Watermelon is the ultimate summer fruit – it just screams fun in the sun! I've always loved growing my own in the garden. There's something special about watching the little seeds sprout into big, juicy melons. Call me old-fashioned, but I want my kids to understand where their food comes from and appreciate the whole process. Gardening together is such a good experience, and it teaches them a thing or two about patience and hard work along the way.

This year, things have been a bit hectic, so we've been doing more container gardening on the deck. It's actually been working out pretty well! But for watermelons, we head to the farmers' market. I love the music, culture, local traditions, and all the unique offerings. There’s always something new to see, and it feels good to support local farmers.

The best part? Everything is bursting with freshness, mostly organic, and incredibly delicious. And right now, in the peak of summer, the watermelons are amazing. Sweet, juicy, and refreshing – it's the perfect way to cool down and stay hydrated.

Nourishing Reset

Some years back, after watching the documentary Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead by Joe Cross, I committed to a 15-day juice fast. He made quite a compelling case for juice cleanses.

  • Rich in vitamins and nutrients
  • The digestive system gets a rest
  • Weight loss (and these watermelon juice recipes for weight loss work perfectly, minus the sweetener).
  • Improved skin texture and appearance
  • Alkalizing to our body

I didn’t want to stay on it long-term, but it was a great way to naturally cleanse and fast, along with it being a great reset and kickstart into healthier eating.

I juiced a bunch of greens, veggies, and fruits (watermelon juice cleanse, anyone?). I tried to mix it up. During those 15 days, I experienced an incredible transformation. Not only did I lose some extra pounds, but I also felt energy like never before.

Watermelon juice quickly became my favorite. It was such a yummy treat I looked forward to each day. And watermelon is bursting with good-for-you benefits.

Top ten benefits of watermelon juice

  1. Hydrating: Watermelon juice is a delicious way to stay hydrated, as it contains over 90% water.
  2. Nutrient-rich: Packed with potassium, magnesium, and vitamins.
  3. Promotes eye health: With beta-carotene and lutein, watermelon helps protect eyes from UV rays and promotes healthy vision.
  4. Glowing skin and healthy hair: Antioxidants and vitamin C help fight free radicals, leaving skin radiant and hair healthy.
  5. Assists in weight management: Watermelon helps reduce your appetite.
  6. Soothes sore muscles: After a workout, watermelon helps soothe sore muscles and aids in recovery.
  7. Stress-relief elixir: Lycopene, vitamin C, potassium, magnesium, and vitamin B6, work together to reduce stress, regulate hormones, and promote relaxation.
  8. Anti-inflammatory: Watermelon’s anti-inflammatory compounds promote overall wellness.
  9. Heart-friendly: The potassium and magnesium in watermelon juice help maintain healthy blood pressure, benefiting heart health.
  10. Aids in digestion: Watermelon’s enzymes support healthy digestion.

It’s such an easy way to get more fruit into our diet. I like to get one watermelon for eating and one for juicing. From smoothies, salads, and sorbets, to salsa, it’s such a versatile fruit that can be enjoyed in so many ways.
